Montecuccolo castle
Earliest mention of this castle comes in a document dating back to 1027 "... mons qui vocatur cuculi...". A building, probably fortified, with great socio-economic power rose, in the 11th century, to the legal status of Castle of Renno. It then became the centre of a 'communal federation' in the 13th century and later, the main town of most part of the Frignano region. It remained so until the end of the 15th century thanks chiefly to the Montecuccoli family. The castle is actually the birthplace of Raimondo Montecuccoli, who was born here on 21st February 1609 and who was famous for leading the imperial troops to defeat the Turks in the Battle of the Raab.
