 L'edificio in stile neoclassico, fu fatto costruire dal Duca Francesco IV  nella località montana fra le meglio raggiungibili da Modena con la Via Giardini. La Prima pietra fu posata l'1 novembre 1830 con una fastosa cerimonia ma i lavori andarono a rilento tanto che, 14 anni dopo, come risulta da diversi documenti, i lavori risultavano ancora in corso.

Morto nel 1846 Francesco IV, gli succede il figlio Francesco V che usò il Palazzo quale residenza estiva ospitandovi i reali infanti di Spagna, Don Giovanni e Maria Beatrice, l'imperatrice Maria Anna d'Austria e il re di Sassonia, il granduca di Toscana e la principessa Augusta di Baviera.

Questo edificio fu ristrutturato nel 1882 per far posto agli uffici della Prefettura e del Tribunale e con successivo intervento di restauro del 1985 si è sistemato il piano terra adibendolo a sala mostra per esposizioni temporanee, il primo piano a sede della Pretura, il secondo a biblioteca comunale ed il sottotetto a sala riunioni.

The neo-classical style building was built by the duke Francesco IV in one of the mountain districts that was more easily-reachable from the Via Giardini road. Its first stone was laid, with great ceremony, on 1^st November 1830, but work was slow and documents show that after 14 years it was still in progress.

When Francesco IV died in 1846, the palace became the summer residence of his son Francesco V, who hosted the children of the Spanish royal family, Don Giovanni and Maria Beatrice, the Empress Maria Anna of Austria, the king of Saxony, the Archduke of Tuscany and Princess Augusta of Bavaria.

This building has been restructured twice: once in 1882 to house the offices of the law-court and the prefecture, then again in 1985 to create an exhibition room on the ground floor, the magistrate's court on the first floor, a library on the second floor and a conference-room on the last floor.
