Fanano Centro storico

E' situato nel punto di incontro dei torrenti Fellicarolo e Ospitale che danno vita al torrente Leo.

Fanano è circondato da castagneti, faggeti, abeti e pini, costellato di laghi e ampi prati dove è possibile compiere piacevoli passeggiate, immersi in un ambiente non ancora contaminato dall'uomo e dal progresso.

L'origine del nome è ancora incerta: alcuni suppongono che derivi da FANUM JANI (ipotizzando la presenza di un tempio dedicato a Giano), altri da FANNIUS FONDUS (fondo di proprietà di un tale "Fannius" di epoca romana).

L testimonianze archeologiche dimostrano l'insediamento in queste zone di Liguri, Etruschi e Celti. Notevole è il patrimonio artistico che il paese ha conservato: innanzitutto la Pieve, dedicata a San Silvestro ( costruita sulla base di una più antica costruita da Sant'Anselmo), poi alcune costruzioni del '600 come i palazzi Monari e Lardi, palazzo Severi ( in località Baldiola) e infine il Convento delle Clarisse.

Situated between the Fellicarolo and Ospitale, which flow into the river Leo, Fanano is surrounded by woods of pines, chestnut trees, beeches and firs. For its visitors it offers lakes and fields and acres of idyllic countryside scenes, perfect for strolling through unspoilt nature.

The origins of the town's name are still uncertain. It may come from FANUM JANI (which would imply the presence of a temple dedicated to Janus) or FANNIUS FONDUS (ground belonging to a certain "Fannius" during the Roman period).

The archaeological remains show there were Liguri Etruschi and Celtic settlements in this zone and the town also has a remarkable artistic heritage. The church of St Sylvester (built on the site of an older one erected by Sant'Anselmo) is one example of this patrimony, as are the buildings which date back to the 17^th century, such as the residences of the Monari, Lardi and Severi families (in Baldiola) and the Clarisse Convent.
