Questo antichissimo ponte viene citato per la prima volta nel 1028. E' posto sull'antico tracciato che collegava Pievepelago e Riolunato, ed è stato realizzato con un caratteristico profilo ad ali di gabbiano per due motivi : il primo è quello di permettere lo scavalcamento dello Scoltenna utilizzando un unico pilone centrale ottenibile solo mantenendo sufficientemente ampie le arcate, il secondo quello di avere le teste del ponte alla giusta quota rispetto agli imbocchi possibile attraverso la doppia schiena d'asino che offre al ponte la sua particolare conformazione.

This ancient 'Fairy-Tale Bridge' was mentioned for the first time in a document dated 1028. It is situated on the old track which connected Pievepelago and Riolunato and was built with a characteristic full-wing profile for two reasons: firstly, because only by keeping the arches this wide could the bridge cross the Scoltenna with a single central pier; secondly, the double hump-backed structure, which makes the bridge so unusual to look at, ensured the heads of the bridge were built at the right height for the entrances.
