 L'antica strada denominata Vandelli, dal nome del matematico Domenico Vandelli, ideata nel 1728 e realizzata verso la fine della prima metà del secolo XVIII, è certamente elemento primario della struttura geoantropica del Frignano.

L'ampia ed articolata ricerca condotta dalla Provincia di Modena, Assessorato per la Cultura, sotto l'egida dell'Istituto per i Beni Culturali e Naturali della Regione Emilia Romagna (cfr. La Via Vandelli, strada Ducale del '700 da Modena a Massa 1987), ha consentito la riscoperta di una trama di fatti e manufatti tuttora ben evidenti e riconoscibili, ma ricoperti da uno strato di sedimentazioni successive e di degrado dovuto all'abbandono e/o alla trasformazione del territorio.

La trama viaria è composta da tanti episodi, legati all'antica strada "militare" che, utilizzando in parte la viabilità preesistente, ingloba opere storiche e nuove realizzazioni. Tale importante percorrenza è di per sé un museo del territorio e nel territorio: i percorsi, le architetture, i toponimi, i manufatti, sono tanti e tutti di rilevante valenza storico - architettonica per il Frignano.

The old Via Vandelli road was named after the mathematician Domenico Vandelli. Conceived of in 1728 and built towards the mid 18^th century, it is indisputably an essential element of the geoanthropical structure in the Frignano region.

The wide and varied research carried out by Modena Provincial Council's Cultural Office, under the aegis of the Institute of Cultural and Natural assets of the Emilia-Romagna Region, (cf. Via Vandelli, Ducal road from Modena to Massa from the 1700s, 1987) led to the rediscovery of a host of objects and artefacts, still easily recognisable. Buried under a layer of sedimentation they had been lost as the territory had been slowly abandoned and/or transformed.

The road's history is made up of a number of events linked to an old military road. Using, in part, the pre-existing structure, the road encounters works of both a historical and a modern nature. It is almost a museum of the land it passes through: the traditional routes, the architecture, the place names, and the artefacts it comes into contact with are countless, and all of important historical and architectural value for the Frignano area.
